Nerang Street

You'll start this route by heading onto Nerang Street, which is part of the busy Southport Nerang Road. It's a key route through Southport, so you can expect a constant flow of traffic and several sets of lights. Keep a look out for bus stops and vehicles turning as this road serves a lot of local businesses. Before long, you'll need to make a left onto Binstead Drive, so check your mirrors early and signal your intent.

Binstead Drive

Once you’ve turned onto Binstead Drive, things will calm down a little. This road will take you through a more residential area, meaning parked cars, cyclists, and the odd pedestrian are your main hazards. There’s also a slight left bend that you'll need to follow - nothing tricky, just stay aware of your positioning. The next move is a right onto Wardoo Street, so be prepared to slow down and check for oncoming traffic.

Johnston Street

Johnston Street has a roundabout pretty early on, which is a great spot to showcase your ability to handle them. Keep your speed controlled but confident as hesitation can be just as bad as rushing. This stretch is fairly straightforward, but be mindful of any pedestrians that may cross near the shops. Your next step is an easy right onto High Street, which will be one of the busier roads on the route.

Now you’re back in the thick of Southport’s main roads where it can get pretty hectic, with several lanes and traffic lights. Lane discipline is key here, so stick to your lane, indicate clearly, and keep an eye on your speed. It’s also a good stretch to show the examiner that you can handle city driving confidently.
